Injectable brain gel may save soldiers’ lives, zombify them, or both.
So its not quite zombies, but its a great start! Imagine the ability to repair brain injury that was previously not possible! Might need some of that for myself, things haven’t worked right after that quad crash….
When they start selling brain fertilizer, you’ll know you’re living in the crazy century. Didn’t Nostradamus predict that? The ongoing Military Health Research Forum is discussing the use of an injectable hydrogel for the treatment of traumatic brain injury, which — unlike our ability to do push-ups — is no joke. The fertilizer part comes from the gel’s ability to stimulate the growth of neural stem cells within the brain, which are then capable of repairing damaged nerves and preventing the spread of harm to other cells. “Brain tissue regeneration” might not be the wisest name for it, but tests on rats have shown sustained functional recovery, and we understand that with enough Igors on the job, this could be put into use within the next three years.

Breakthrough Means Artificial Life Could Be Here “Within Months” - Neatorama.
Another step in the quest to create life has been made, as scientists successfully transformed one bacteria into another by replacing it’s DNA with a related species’. Now, scientists are setting their sights on creating entirely new microbes with unique genome sequences, from scratch.
Dr Venter likened it to “changing a Macintosh computer into a PC by inserting a new piece of software” and stressed it would be more difficult in other kinds of cells, which have enzymes to snip the DNA of invaders.
But he said to achieve the feat, without adding anything more than naked DNA, “is a huge enabling step.”
“It’s a necessary step toward creating artificial life,” added microbiologist Fred Blattner of the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Dr Venter said that, in the light of this success, the culmination of a decade’s work, he will be attempting the first transplant of a lab-made genome to create the first artificial life “within months.”

A Solar Grand Plan: Scientific American.
Everybody should read this article and understand what it will take to fix this country and this energy crisis.
And then look at the moron politicians and realize that they need to be voted out of office if we actually want change.

LightLane Home.

Bike lanes are an effective means of improving safety for motorists and cyclists. However, due to the high cost of installation, bike lanes are not widely available. Instead of forcing cyclists to adapt their behavior to the existing infrastructure, the bike lane should adapt to the cyclist.
Neat concept, but with only 3 hour runtimes, and whats a “universal mobile-phone charger” anyways?

BBC NEWS | Europe | EU quarantines London in swine flu panic.
Ummmm… Zombies are real?
There has been a small outbreak of “zombism” in London due to mutation of the H1N1 virus into new strain: H1Z1.
Similar to a scare originally found in Cambodia back in 2005, victims of a new strain of the swine flu virus H1N1 have been reported in London.
After death, this virus is able to restart the heart of it’s victim for up to two hours after the initial demise of the person where the individual behaves in extremely violent ways from what is believe to be a combination of brain damage and a chemical released into blood during “resurrection.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the alert to phase six, its highest level, and advised governments to activate pandemic contingency plans.
In Mexico, the epicentre of the outbreak, President Felipe Calderon urged people to stay at home over the next five days.
