Stephen Colbert’s Name On Space Station - Geekologie

Stephen Colbert’s Name On Space Station - Geekologie.

Stephen Colbert just won a contest to have a new section of the International Space Station named after him. Unfortunately, those sticklers at NASA probably won’t let it fly.

The name “Colbert” beat out NASA’s four suggested options in the space agency’s effort to have the public help name the addition. The new room will be launched later this year.
NASA’s mistake was allowing write-ins.

Colbert urged viewers of his Comedy Central show, “The Colbert Report” to write in his name - and they complied, with 230,539 votes. That clobbered Serenity, one of the NASA choices, by more than 40,000 votes.

NASA reserves the right to choose an appropriate name. Agency spokesman John Yembrick said NASA will decide in April, but will give top vote-getters “the most consideration.”

China seen producing scaled-down knockoff of Peugeot Hoggar concept.

Do work china!

it’s a smaller Hoggar knockoff made in China by an as-yet-unknown firm, evidently created by using images of the Hoggar found online. Like the concept, it has four-wheel drive, but that’s about where the overlap ends. It’s powered by an 800cc Chery QQ engine running through a five-speed gearbox. You can compare and contrast the two cars for yourselves in the gallery by following the link.

What’s So Hot About Chili Peppers? - Neatorama

What’s So Hot About Chili Peppers? - Neatorama.

We love chili peppers, the hotter, the better! The ingredient that gives spicy peppers their heat is capsaicin, but what is the purpose of capsaicin in nature? To find the answer, ecologist Joshua Tewksbury traveled to Bolivia, home of many kinds of peppers.

“Capsaicin demonstrates the incredible elegance of evolution,” says Tewksbury. The specialized chemical deters microbes—humans harness this ability when they use chilies to preserve food—but capsaicin doesn’t deter birds from eating chili fruits and spreading seeds. “Once in a while, the complex, often conflicting demands that natural selection places on complex traits results in a truly elegant solution. This is one of those times.”

Consoles: Sorry, The Midnight Blue Xbox 360 Is Not for Sale

Consoles: Sorry, The Midnight Blue Xbox 360 Is Not for Sale.

Not only is this blue Xbox 360 so cool it can only be photographed at night; it’s got twice the RAM (1GB) of a stock 360. Of course, it’s only made for developers.

The Xbox 360 Midnight (made up name) is Microsoft’s latest 360 development kit. And its main feature, other than running test code from burned discs, is that it features double the memory of a stock 360—a little bit of wiggle room in the hardware for devs to debug.

So it looks nice, runs burned discs and might even speed through menus with a bit more ease.
